Fraud Checker BD: Check a Customer Before You Ship

Short answer: a fraud checker in Bangladesh shows how many parcels were delivered to a phone number and how many came back. Steadfast has one built into its merchant panel and app, and free websites combine data from several couriers. Use the result as one signal, then confirm the order with the customer before you book the courier.

This guide shows where to check a number in Steadfast, Pathao and RedX, what the free tools do with your data, how to read a success rate, and what to do with a new number that has no history. It does not cover your full payment policy. That is in our post on COD vs bKash advance and fake orders. Courier pages were checked on 2 October 2026.

What is a courier fraud checker?

Every time a courier delivers a parcel, it records the customer's phone number and whether the parcel was accepted or returned. A fraud checker looks up that history for one number and shows you a summary, usually:

  • Total parcels sent to the number
  • How many were delivered, and how many were cancelled or returned
  • A success rate, which is delivered divided by total
  • Sometimes, short comments from other merchants

The name is a bit unfair. A returned parcel is not always fraud. The customer may have been away, the rider may not have called, or the product came late. What the checker really measures is how often parcels to that number end up paid for. That is still the number you care about with cash on delivery, because each returned parcel costs you the outbound charge and sometimes a return charge.

How much? On the couriers' own rate pages on 2 October 2026, a 0.5 kg parcel outside Dhaka cost ৳115 with Steadfast and ৳110 with Pathao. Pathao adds 50% of the delivery charge on returns from outside Dhaka, so one refused parcel there costs about ৳165. Steadfast's own pages disagree on returns: its terms say it does not charge for return parcels, while its business page says return charges apply separately. Check your merchant panel. Our courier charges comparison has the full rates.

How do you check a customer in Steadfast, Pathao and RedX?

Steadfast

Steadfast says it plainly on its business page: "Fraud check before you ship. Type the number and see how many parcels that buyer took, and returned." The same page says its merchant app has "orders, pickups, fraud check and payouts, on your phone."

  1. Log in to the Steadfast merchant panel at steadfast.com.bd, or open the SteadFast Merchant app.
  2. Open Fraud check.
  3. Type the customer's phone number, as 11 digits starting with 01.
  4. Read the delivered and returned counts before you create the parcel.

It only shows parcels that went through Steadfast. A customer with a long history on another courier can look new here.

Pathao

When Pathao relaunched its merchant panel in December 2019, Future Startup reported a "customer success rate check" among the new features. Open-source fraud checking code on Packagist also logs in with a Pathao merchant email and password to read customer history, which suggests the data is still there for merchants. We could not confirm the feature, or where it sits, on Pathao's own pages in October 2026. Look in your panel, or ask Pathao merchant support.

RedX

We could not find a customer history or fraud check feature on RedX's public pages. Some third-party tools say they include RedX data. If you ship with RedX, ask your account contact whether the merchant panel shows a customer's past deliveries.

If you use more than one courier

Each courier only sees its own parcels. A seller who sends inside-Dhaka parcels with one courier and outside-Dhaka parcels with another needs to check both, or use a tool that combines them.

Are free fraud checker BD sites safe to use?

Search "fraud checker bd" and you will find free websites, Android apps and code libraries. Most show one combined result for Steadfast, Pathao, RedX and sometimes other couriers. Before you use one, know how they get the data.

  • They read the couriers' merchant data. The open-source library we looked at on Packagist asks for a Steadfast and a Pathao merchant email and password to work. A website that does the same is logging in to courier accounts somewhere, with someone's credentials.
  • They can break without warning. When a courier changes its system, the tool shows old or empty results until it is fixed. Public code changes on GitHub show this happening with Steadfast.
  • You hand over your customer's number. Every lookup sends a real person's phone number to a third party you know little about.

Simple rules that keep you out of trouble:

  1. Never type your own courier password into a third-party site or app.
  2. Prefer the check inside your courier's own panel when it exists.
  3. Only look up numbers that placed an order with you.
  4. Do not screenshot results with a customer's name and number into public groups.

On the law: the Personal Data Protection Ordinance, gazetted in November 2025, became the Personal Data Protection Act on 15 April 2026, as The Daily Star reported in July 2026. The paper says the Act requires consent before personal data is collected. We have not read the full text of the Act, so we will not tell you exactly what it asks of a small seller. The rules above are good practice either way.

What success rate is safe for cash on delivery?

There is no official number. Some third-party tools label 80% or more as low risk, 60% to 80% as medium, and under 60% as high. Others use 90% and 70%. These are choices the tool makers made, not a rule from any courier, so set your own.

Two things matter as much as the rate:

  • How many parcels it is based on. 1 delivered and 1 returned is 50%, but it is one bad day. 4 delivered and 12 returned is a pattern.
  • How much you lose if it comes back. A ৳300 item inside Dhaka is a small risk. A ৳4,000 order outside Dhaka is a big one.

Here is an example policy, not a standard. Adjust the numbers to your own return rate and margins.

What the check showsSmall order inside DhakaOutside Dhaka or high value
5 or more parcels, 80% or more deliveredConfirm by WhatsApp, then shipConfirm by WhatsApp, then ship
5 or more parcels, 60% to 80% deliveredCall before you shipCall, and ask for the delivery charge in advance
5 or more parcels, under 60% deliveredAsk for the delivery charge in advanceAsk for part of the price in advance, or decline politely
Fewer than 5 parcels, or noneTreat as new (next section)Treat as new, and ask for the delivery charge in advance

Worked example: a number shows 18 delivered and 2 returned. That is 20 parcels and a 90% success rate, so a WhatsApp confirmation is enough. Another number shows 3 delivered and 4 returned: 7 parcels, 43%. For an outside-Dhaka order, ask for the delivery charge first. If they pay it, ship. If they do not, you just saved one return.

What do you do with a new number that has no history?

No history is not a red flag. Plenty of good customers are ordering online for the first time, or use a new SIM. Treat them as unknown, and let the confirmation do the work.

  1. Confirm the order in writing. Send the product, size, total with delivery and the address on WhatsApp, and ask the customer to reply YES.
  2. Call if there is no reply. A real buyer usually picks up or calls back. A wrong or switched-off number tells you something too.
  3. Check the address. "Mirpur" is not an address. Ask for the road, house and a landmark. Vague addresses come back more often.
  4. Ask for the delivery charge in advance outside Dhaka. Explain it as a courier rule, not as suspicion. The COD vs bKash advance guide covers how to word it.
  5. Check your own records. Has this number ordered from you before, and did it accept the parcel? Your own history is the most reliable data you have.

Where your store can help

If you take orders through a store link, the order arrives with the customer's phone number already written, so the check takes seconds. On Kommercly, which we make, the Orders page shows "Repeat customer: 3 orders from this number in your store, 1 cancelled" (with your real counts) when a number has ordered before. Each order has a Call button and a WhatsApp button that opens the chat with a confirmation message already written. You then mark the order Confirmed. If you cancel it in a store run from the phone, the stock goes back. Kommercly does not check courier history for you, so you still run the courier's fraud check yourself. The setup guide shows how orders arrive.

For what to say on the call or in the message, use our order confirmation message templates. They include a call script.

What can a fraud checker not catch?

  • New numbers. Someone who wants to waste your parcel can use a fresh SIM.
  • Shared phones. One number may order for a whole family or office, so one person's returns land on everyone.
  • Couriers it does not see. A Steadfast check knows nothing about Pathao parcels, and the other way round.
  • The reason for a return. A wrong size, a late rider or a damaged box all count as returns. Our post on selling on WhatsApp in Bangladesh covers the order conversation that prevents many of these.
  • Your own mistakes. A slow confirmation, an unclear photo or a delivery charge the customer did not expect causes refusals that no checker predicts.

Use a fraud checker as one filter, together with a written confirmation and a fair advance policy. With all three, you catch many refused parcels before they leave your hands.

Quick answers

What is a fraud checker in Bangladesh?

It is a tool that shows a customer’s parcel history by phone number: how many parcels were delivered to that number and how many came back. Steadfast has one in its merchant panel and app. Free websites and apps do the same across several couriers. It does not prove fraud. It shows how often parcels to that number were accepted.

Is there a Steadfast fraud check?

Yes. Steadfast’s business page, checked in October 2026, lists “Fraud check before you ship: type the number and see how many parcels that buyer took, and returned.” It also says the merchant app has orders, pickups, fraud check and payouts. You need a Steadfast merchant account to use it. It only shows parcels sent through Steadfast.

What success rate is safe for cash on delivery?

There is no official safe number. Some third-party tools label 80% or more as low risk and under 60% as high risk, but those are the tool makers’ choices, not a courier rule. Look at the count as well as the rate. Two parcels with one return is 50%, but it tells you very little. Ten returns out of twelve tells you a lot.

What should I do if a number has no courier history?

Treat it as unknown, not bad. Many real customers are ordering online for the first time or use a new number. Confirm the order by phone or WhatsApp, check the address is complete, and for outside-Dhaka or high-value orders ask for the delivery charge in advance by bKash or Nagad. A customer who has paid something first is less likely to refuse the parcel.

Can I post fake customers’ numbers in Facebook groups?

We advise against it. A number can belong to a family, change owner, or be typed by someone else as a prank. Posting it publicly can hurt an innocent person and can expose you to a complaint. Keep your own private list, use your courier’s fraud check, and share patterns, not phone numbers, in seller groups.
