How to Sell on WhatsApp in Bangladesh: The Complete Guide

WhatsApp is where Bangladeshi e-commerce actually happens. Customers don't want to create accounts and type card numbers, they want to send a message, confirm a price, and receive the product at their door. If you learn to run that conversation well, WhatsApp becomes a serious sales machine. This guide covers the whole journey: setup, getting orders, handling payment and delivery, and fixing the chaos that arrives when orders grow.

Step 1: Use WhatsApp Business, not your personal number

Download WhatsApp Business (free) and register a number you can dedicate to the shop. It gives you tools personal WhatsApp doesn't:

  • Business profile, shop name, address, hours, and a link customers can check.
  • Catalog, a basic product list inside WhatsApp.
  • Quick replies, save answers to "dam koto?", "delivery charge koto?" and send them in one tap.
  • Labels, tag chats as New Order, Payment Pending, Shipped.
  • Away messages, auto-reply at night so customers know you'll respond.

Set up quick replies on day one. Most sellers type the same five answers hundreds of times a month, that time is pure waste.

Step 2: Give customers one link that starts a chat

Your most important asset is your wa.me link: wa.me/8801XXXXXXXXX opens a chat with you in one tap. Put it in your Facebook page button, Instagram bio, TikTok profile, and every post. The fewer steps between "interested" and "chatting with you," the more orders you get.

Step 3: Run the order conversation with discipline

A sale on WhatsApp is a script. The sellers who convert best keep it tight:

  1. Answer fast. Reply within minutes and conversion jumps; reply in three hours and the customer bought elsewhere.
  2. Confirm the exact item, product, size/variant, quantity, and price, in one message.
  3. Collect delivery details in one message: name, full address, phone. Save it as a quick reply.
  4. State the total clearly: product + delivery charge = total, and the payment method.
  5. Confirm dispatch with the courier name and expected delivery day.

Step 4: Payment, the COD question

Most customers will ask for cash on delivery, and refusing COD entirely will cost you sales. But 100% COD invites fake orders. The standard practice among experienced sellers: COD inside Dhaka, delivery charge in advance (via bKash) for outside Dhaka. A customer who won't send a ৳130 delivery charge was probably never going to accept the parcel. We wrote a full breakdown in COD vs bKash advance.

Step 5: Delivery

Steadfast, Pathao Courier, and RedX all offer COD collection, they collect cash from your customer and settle with you. Compare charges (typically ৳60–150 depending on zone), and track your return rate per courier: the cheapest courier is expensive if a fifth of parcels come back.

The wall every WhatsApp seller hits

At roughly 10–20 orders a day, the DM-only model starts breaking:

  • You answer "price koto?" fifty times a day for products you already posted.
  • Orders get lost in chat scroll, you forget who confirmed, who paid, who got shipped.
  • There's nowhere for a customer to browse everything you sell.
  • Every sale needs 10–15 messages of your personal attention.

The fix isn't leaving WhatsApp, your customers are there. The fix is putting a store in front of it: a link where customers browse products, see prices and photos, pick variants, and tap "order", which opens WhatsApp with the full order already written: items, quantities, total, address. The conversation drops from fifteen messages to two, and every order arrives structured instead of scattered.

That's exactly what Kommercly does: you keep your products in a Google Sheet, it becomes a store with WhatsApp checkout, and orders also land in a dashboard so nothing gets lost in the scroll. Free to start, no card needed.

  • One-message order script: item → address → total → dispatch confirmation
  • COD in Dhaka, advance delivery charge outside
  • Return rate tracked per courier
  • A store link so customers browse first and message second
