Shopify Alternatives in Bangladesh (2026): An Honest Comparison
If you sell online in Bangladesh and you've googled "how to make an online store," you've been told to use Shopify. Shopify is genuinely good software, but it was built for sellers in the US and Europe, and using it from Bangladesh means fighting three problems from day one: you pay in dollars, your customers don't pay by card, and your real sales channel is WhatsApp and Facebook, not a website with a card checkout.
This is an honest comparison of what Bangladeshi sellers actually use in 2026, including where each option is the right choice. (Full disclosure: we build Kommercly, one of the tools below. We'll tell you plainly when it's not the right fit.)
The real costs, side by side
| Option | Monthly cost | Setup time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Basic | ~US$29 + apps (৳4,000–8,000) | 1–3 days | Sellers targeting international card-paying customers |
| WooCommerce (WordPress) | Hosting ৳500–2,000 + your time | 3–7 days | Technical sellers who want full control |
| Facebook page only | Free | 1 hour | Testing a product idea |
| Local agency-built site | ৳20,000–100,000+ one-time | 2–6 weeks | Established brands with budget |
| Kommercly | Free to start; Premium ৳499 | ~5 minutes | WhatsApp/COD sellers who manage products in Google Sheets |
Shopify: great software, wrong assumptions for Bangladesh
Shopify assumes your customers pay by card at checkout. In Bangladesh, most online orders are cash on delivery or bKash, and connecting local payments to Shopify means third-party workarounds. Add the US$29+ monthly fee (paid with a dollar-enabled card, which many sellers don't have), app costs, and theme costs, and you're spending ৳4,000–8,000 a month before your first sale.
Choose Shopify if: you sell internationally to card-paying customers, or you're building a large catalog brand with budget for it. It scales beautifully, that part of its reputation is deserved.
WooCommerce: free, if your time is free
WooCommerce itself costs nothing, and there are Bangladeshi hosting providers and bKash plugins. The catch is that you become your own developer: hosting, security updates, plugin conflicts, backups. When your site breaks on a Friday night during a boost campaign, that's your problem. Many sellers who start here end up paying a developer anyway.
Choose WooCommerce if: you (or someone close to you) are genuinely technical and enjoy maintaining a website.
Staying on Facebook only: fine until it isn't
Most sellers start here and it's the right way to test an idea. The problems appear with scale: customers ask the same "price koto?" question fifty times a day, your product photos get buried under new posts, there's no product catalog anyone can browse, and one page restriction can freeze your entire business overnight. A Facebook page is a marketing channel, not a store.
Agency-built websites: expensive and often abandoned
A custom site looks professional, but ৳20,000–100,000 upfront is a lot to spend before you know your product sells. The quiet failure mode: the agency finishes, hands over the site, and six months later the product list is outdated because updating it requires calling the developer. We've seen many of these sites, beautiful and abandoned.
Kommercly: built around how Bangladeshi sellers already work
Here's our honest pitch. Most sellers already track products in a Google Sheet and close sales in WhatsApp. Kommercly connects those two facts: you fill a Google Sheet template with your products, and it becomes a live store at yourname.kommercly.com with WhatsApp checkout, COD and bKash support, and delivery zones, in about five minutes, free, with no card required. Update the sheet, and the store updates.
Kommercly is not the right choice if: you need card payments at checkout for international customers, or you want deep custom design control. For that, Shopify or a custom build is honestly better.
It is the right choice if: you're a WhatsApp/Facebook seller in Bangladesh who wants a real store link to share, with a browsable catalog, order tracking, and your own domain when you're ready (Premium, ৳499/month), without learning any new software beyond a spreadsheet.
The bottom line
- Selling internationally with card payments → Shopify
- Technical and want full control → WooCommerce
- Just testing an idea → Facebook page, free
- Established brand with real budget → custom build
- WhatsApp/COD seller who lives in Google Sheets → Kommercly, free to start
Whatever you pick, pick based on how your customers actually pay and where they actually message you, not on what a YouTube tutorial made for American sellers recommends.
